According to a release, the members of OHMSA are installing timer switches on all their illuminated outdoor advertising structures (excluding airport and scrolling sites). The illumination will shut down from 01:00 to 05:00 when most consumers are asleep at home.
Lyn Jones, marketing manager at Clear Channel, said timers have not yet been installed. “We are currently rolling out our plans. Timers will be installed at all billboards run by legal entities across South Africa.
“We cannot anticipate how much energy will be conserved as yet, as all billboards use different lighting systems and varying amounts of electricity.”
