Jacaranda 94.2 creates Traffic Idols
People’s driving skills and SANRAL’s road upgrades certainly aren’t doing anyone any favours…but Jacaranda 94.2 has turned these hurdles into an opportunity. When it was first announced that Jacaranda 94.2 was looking for someone who is over 18 years old, and fluent in Afrikaans and English to do traffic in the Workzone with Maurice Carpede and Barney Simon, the station was inundated with entries… by the thousands.
Now it’s down to five Traffic Idols finalists: Ilze-Marie, Jacques, Yurika, Anelle and Adre – who are willing to take it upon themselves to bring Jacaranda 94.2 around or through virtually any obstacle our national roads have to offer. The five got to spend a day with Maurice and Barney in the Jacaranda 94.2 studios this week – campaigning for votes as they strutted their stuff on the airwaves. Today, the public votes…
PAMRO meeting and All Africa Media Research Conference in Dakar, Senegal
The 13th PAMRO meeting and All Africa Media Research Conference will take place from August 21 – 24, 2011 in Dakar, Senegal at the Le Méridien President Hotel. The Conference will start on Sunday, August 21 with registration late afternoon followed by welcome drinks. As usual, updates on media audience research activities from countries from all parts of Africa will be given.
Presentations will address a wide range of subjects such as television audience research methodologies, as well as the measurement and status of radio, print, Internet and outdoor in Africa. Experts will take a look at what the future holds and discuss, inter alia, research conducted over the past year in member countries. New talent at Isilumko Media
Isilumko Media Powered by Student wise, has appointed of three new campaign co-ordinators; Keshia Mahwayo, Rachel Finch and Llewella du Plooy. Keshia Mahwayo and Rachel Finch join the Cape Town office as campaign co-ordinators, while Llewella du Plooy takes on the role of junior campaign co-ordinator at the Johannesburg office. All bring a wealth of knowledge in their respective roles. Keshia has a business degree from the University of Whales, whilst Rachel Finch has a National Diploma in Public Relations and a degree in Project Management from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Llewella du Plooy has a degree in journalism from the University of Johannesburg and has ambitions to complete her honours degree with specialization in Information Management in 2012.
Chai FM launches new brand strategy
Chai FM brought 101.9 megahertz of life to Johannesburg as it re-launched its new brand strategy, logo and line up at a glitzy event held at Club ZAR last week. Guests were treated to an inspiring welcome performance by DJ Switch as well as mentalist Gilan Gork as Chai FM announced its repositioning as the collective heartbeat of communities across Johannesburg, South Africa and internationally.
Speaking at the launch, recently appointed CEO Kevin Fine launched the revamped look, feel and sound of the station which he says will benefit not only the Jewish community but any listener within the broadcast footprint. Fine also announced several important partnerships including those with Associated Magazines, AD Reach, Wide Open Media, VW Hatfield, and a critical relationship showing their care for the community with Lifeline Johannesburg.
Listenership , internet and Facebook connectivity are on the up for the station and Fine enthusiastically promised media, listeners and advertisers a credible” 1st in class” radio platform. Time to renew AMASA membership
The continued success of AMASA The Advertising Media Association of South Africa (AMASA) hinges on the existence of a strong and motivated membership. AMASA is calling on all members to re-new their annual membership, and for new members, to download membership forms. Through its membership contributions, AMASA is able to meet its mandate of providing media education and knowledge sharing to the advertising and media industries.
AMASA members have access to reduced fees to the AAA’s six month part time Media Module, SA’s premier media programme for aspirant media planners, buyers and media sales representatives; the annual four day media training workshop where industry experts provide valuable guidance to both beginners and experts; AMASA’s annual golf day; monthly meetings and of course the annual industry bash. Contributions from members aid the successful continuation of the newly established AMASA Learnership Programme (ALP), a bursary fund which seeks to bring fresh media talent into the current staff-starved industry.
Striving to keep AMASA memberships affordable for all, fees for 2011/12 are:
- Corporate Membership – R1000 per year plus R430 per person
- Individual Membership – R590 per person.
