The Property Magazine gave its readers a whole new way of looking at the government’s recently announced job creation strategy, through a strategically placed April Fool’s Joke in the magazine’s April issue.
Located in the Real Estate section, under Residential, the story revolved around a purported plan by the government to introduce a new law that proposes a ratio of domestic workers to property size. Called The Domestic Utilisation of Manual Labour Bill, the magazine stated that, for instance, homeowners with an erf size of 1 000 sqm and a house of 300 sqm would be legally obliged to employ three full-time gardeners and three domestic workers per 100 sqm.
It went on to quote outraged homeowners and smug domestic workers, and then provided a link to an online calculator on The Property Magazine’s website that would help readers calculate how much they would have to pay, under the new ‘Act’. A click-through then revealed that it was all, in fact, an April Fool’s Joke. Visit thepropertymag.co.za <https://thepropertymag.co.za> to view the full story.
