Barry Sayer appointed president of FEPE International
Barry Sayer, CEO of Continental Outdoor Media, Africa’s leading outdoor advertising company, was unanimously elected as president at the recent 52nd annual General Assembly of FEPE International. FEPE International (the Fédération Européenne Publicité Exterieur) is a worldwide association of outdoor advertising companies, and was formed in Paris in 1959. Since its inception it has become a global association playing a leading role in the direction of outdoor advertising research, and engages in worldwide lobbying for outdoor advertising with authorities, international organizations, political opinion formers and the media.
At the Assembly, the outgoing President, Christian Kauter was thanked for his six year tenure. Rob Atkinson, MD Clear Channel UK, and Daniel Hofer, CEO Affichage Switzerland were elected to join the Board as new members. The Assembly took place following a successful Congress held in Madrid, which attracted 186 delegates from 29 Countries from around the World.
New look sales team for Africa Geographic
News travels quickly in the media industry so many probably already know that as from the end of this month Adie Ceruti will no longer be representing Africa Geographic and Africa – Birds & Birding. “I have worked with Adie for many years and she has been a very valued and important member of our adsales team. Obviously I am sad that she is moving on after what she says ‘have been 14 wonderful years with Africa Geographic, representing two of the best magazines in the business’, but I understand that she has been offered a great opportunity and we all wish her the best of luck in her new venture,” said Peter Borchert, founder of Africa Geographic and Africa – Birds & Birding.
Adie’s duties will be absorbed by Jenni Saunders, our commercial director who heads the adsales team; Simon Borchert, our independent advertising consultant; Tracy Bennett, our advertising representative who focuses on Africa – Birds& Birding and the travel advertising in Africa Geographic; and Jean Ramsay, our advertising representative in Cape Town who will also broaden her duties to include aspects of the Johannesburg market.

Sports design and advertising specialists, Brand inc Sport, has been working on an the epic and exciting task of developing and implementing below-the-line design and branding solutions for soccer giants, Orlando Pirates Football Club. Brand inc Sport has been responsible for edgy and inspiring design work around the Orlando Pirates brand, cultivating numerous creative solutions for the freshly crowned Absa Premiership Champions since originally collaborating in January 2010.

Following its selection in February to handle the GSK Africa account, Starcom announced today that is has been appointed as the media agency partner of choice for GSK South Africa. The GSK media reviews for both Africa and South Africa assignments were not only exhaustive but aggressively contented by many of the leading media agencies.

John Brown Media expands portfolio with Discovery Magazine
John Brown Media announced today that it has added Discovery Magazine to its rapidly expanding portfolio of blue-chip clients. Discovery marks the fourth custom publication in its prolific stable, as John Brown continues to establish a formidable position in the local custom publishing industry.
“Our vision for Discovery Magazine is to broaden its appeal and to underpin Discovery’s key message of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. To that end we are delighted that Toni Younghusband, former editor of Shape and an award-winning health journalist, has been appointed the executive editor of the publication. The new-look Discovery Magazine will launch in October 2011, with a print run of over one million.
