Cape Town stars this month on CNNGo as the travel programme heads to the Mother City to explore its many facets. The 30-minute show gives viewers a perspective on the world from the people who live there, with the first broadcast taking place tonight.
Surfer Gary Kleynhans shows viewers why the city is a year-round surfing Mecca. We also visit Kalk Bay’s famous Olympia Café for the obligatory cappuccino. Local radio DJ Tarryn Trussell introduces viewers to the nightlife in Green Point, an area that has thrived since the World Cup. She also takes CNNGo to one of her favorite shops, WAG, on the famous Long Street.
Winemaking father and son team Giorgio and George Dalla Cia conduct a tour of Bosman’s Crossing, home of their grappa distillery. CNNgo samples some of best local food around at the Stellenbosch market and tour Cape Town’s history in the Piér Rabe antique store.
Yasser Booley has lived in Cape Town his entire life. Now a photography student, he has never taken the natural beauty of his city for granted. He shows CNNGo his favorite lookout spot and takes viewers to the Grand Parade for an authentic Cape Malay snack.
As editor of the South African Art Times, Gabriel Clark-Brown has his finger on the art pulse of the city. He walks us through some of his favorite galleries including the South African National Gallery and the Michael Stevenson gallery in Woodstock, an up and coming neighborhood right outside of District Six.
