Former METRO FM Station Manager joins MallWorx
Matona Sakupwanya has been appointed general manager of MallWorx, a new Unlimited division that offers brands a specialised ambient media platform targeted at the growing middle income market who frequently traverse the mall environment.
Matona was employed by the SABC for 12 years where she was the first woman to head up METRO FM. Her tenure at the station, the largest commercial platform of its kind in South Africa, cemented Matona’s insights into the middle LSM consumer. She holds a Bachelor Social Sciences degree from the University of Durban Westville, an Advertising diploma from the AAA and a Strategic Brand Management diploma from Vega.
“Based on Matona’s extensive experience with the middle income market, the fit between her expertise and MallWorx’s vision and offering was obvious to us,” says Unlimited’s Divisional CEO, Molefi Moloantoa.

Kylie Munnich named senior vice president, distribution, UK, Africa and Ireland for Sony Pictures Television
Kylie Munnich has been named senior vice president of distribution, UK, Africa and Ireland for Sony Pictures Television (SPT). Based in London, Munnich will be responsible for managing and growing all SPT distribution activity across the UK, Ireland and Africa.
In her new role Munnich will lead all film and Television licensing negotiations for Sony Pictures Television with broadcasters and digital platforms in these territories. She will also work closely with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for Online, VOD propositions and drive the burgeoning SVOD market.
Previously, Munnich served as vice president of distribution, Australia and New Zealand for SPT and will be replaced by Mark Young in this position. She also served four years as SPT’s Executive Director, Distribution Australia and New Zealand and prior to that was Sales Director.
“Kylie is a highly experienced and valued team member at SPT, and much respected amongst industry peers,” Stuart Baxter said. “I’m extremely pleased to welcome her to the Europe team and this new role, created to bring a dedicated focus to these important territories.”
ICASA appoints chairperson
The Freedom of Expression Institute has congratulated ICASA on the appointment of Mr Wandile Tutani as chairperson of the Complaints and Compliance Committee (CCC). The FXI said it had raised a number of concerns with the vacancy over the last few months, because it was concerned “with what must now surely be a significant backlog of outstanding cases”.

ComutaNet has recently expanded their media team with the appointment of Charlene Maroos, who will be a media consultant selling ComutaNet Digital Media.

FD EMEA Adopts FTI Consulting Brand
FTI Consulting, Inc. listed on the New York Stock Exchange (FCN), the global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organisations protect and enhance their enterprise value, has announced that FD EMEA has adopted the FTI Consulting brand across the region, which includes the South African office. FD now will be known as the Strategic Communications practice of FTI Consulting on a global basis.
The brand change is among the final steps in executing the global “One Brand” strategy that the company announced earlier this year. and is an important part of the integration of the FTI Consulting. The transition of FD in the EMEA region today marks the completion of the brand migration process for the global Strategic Communications practice.
Strategic Communications practice now will be more strongly positioned to respond to the critical issues that face management teams — including corporate governance concerns, the revival of cross-border M&A, restructuring, crisis communications and increasing regulatory scrutiny.
Gumtree chooses to go with Page Three Media
International online classifieds and community website network, Gumtree, has appointed Cape Town-based strategic media planning company page three media to optimise its R9-million South African ad spend.
Gumtree now covers 60 cities across nine countries including the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong and Dubai. It is the UK’s largest website for local community classifieds.
Four-year-old page three media, with over R1 billion in billings, took the MOST Awards top spot in the Specialist Media Agency category earlier this month and came second in the media agency of the year category. The team is led by MD Anne Dearnaley and directors Ilan Lazarus and Lynnette Heyns.
Offlimit Communications lands Coca Cola SA’s BTL account
Offlimit Communications has won six consecutive pitches over the last six months and has now landed the lucrative Coca Cola company account. Winning the account took well over six weeks to complete. Being the BTL activation experiential specialist, the intense process included answering the brief on both the Glaceau and Play brands within just 35 minutes.
“After long hours and a few sleepless nights we finally came up with the winning formula and turned a concept our client could only imagine into a reality!” says Jerome Cohen, Offlimit CEO.

Exciting new client wins for Havas Sports & Entertainment
In August, Havas Sports & Entertainment conceptualised and managed and implemented the DStv BoxOffice launch to media and key stakeholders. The brief: Create a media /publicity event that will launch the BoxOffice service, allow the guests to engage with the product, but the event must be entertaining and memorable.
Celebrated motivational speaker Bob Proctor (of The Secret fame) will be in South Africa end October into November. Havas Sports & Entertainment has been appointed by the rights owners to manage and implement the gala dinner for 1500 guests and seminar for 2500 delegates. The event is being hosted at Gallagher Estates.
Havas Sports & Entertainment was an integral part of the pitch team when their sister company Euro RSCG pitched for Peermont Global business. The pitch was very successful and Havas Sports & Entertainment has already rolled out the first off-complex activation for Emperors Palace in their Epic Challenge Promotion.
Recently Havas Sports & Entertainmnet managed the PR and event operations for the Volvo Fashion Finale at Urban Tree and has just been appointed by Volvo to manage their stand at the Joburg International Motor Show where Volvo will be launching their new brand strategy “Designed Around You” to the South African market. The show runs from October 6-16 at Nasrec.
MediaCom wins PPC digital business
Hot on the heels of being re-appointed to handle the PPC media account, MediaCom has also won the PPC digital business in a pitch against four specialist digital agencies. The assignment encompasses a full spectrum of services, ranging from Google search and display and mobile through to social media and content strategy and creation.
