British speaker, blogger and creator of web-based stuff from apps to videos, Tom Scott, has developed a series of what he calls ‘journalism warning labels’ and has posted them on his website, much to the amusement of journalists around the world.
The ‘warning labels’ post has been emailed around the journalism fraternity in South Africa, with many recipients sniggering that they were ‘sadly, all too true’.
“It seems a bit strange to me that the media carefully warn about and label any content that involves sex, violence or strong language — but there’s no similar labelling system for, say, sloppy journalism and other questionable content,” he writes on his site.
“I figured it was time to fix that, so I made some stickers. I’ve been putting them on copies of the free papers that I find on the London Underground. You might want to as well.”
Scott has offered readers, via a link on his site, the chance to print and personalise them for themselves. https://www.tomscott.com/warnings/warnings.pdf
