From small beginnings when it launched in 2004, One Africa TV (OATV) has grown to become Namibia’s biggest commercial free-to-air station, providing a 24 hour free-to-air broadcast seven days a week via 28 transmitters across Namibia (with another 15 in planning)
To date, One Africa media bookings were placed through a number of independent sales houses and GetSetGoMedia in Cape Town. But One Africa TV identified the need to review the media sales strategy and appoint a South African based company with a dedicated focus to promote, market and sell the brand with the objective of positioning the OATV vehicle amongst decision makers in South Africa as one of the most effective and cost-efficient media opportunities available in Namibia for advertisers and marketers wanting to reach a rapidly growing audience.
The company has concluded an exclusive representation agreement with Johannesburg based K Motion Pictures that takes effect on November 1.
Founder member and managing director, Errol Pretorius, has a 25 year track record in the media industry and was one of the founding members of the sales division of the M-Net Pay TV channel way back in 1987 where he played a key role in growing the Pay TV business from a single general interest analogue channel into a multiple channel digital advertising option.
“As a team with a collective 50-plus years of media sales and marketing experience, we at K-Motion Pictures are excited at the prospect of working with the One Africa TV Namibia team in Windhoek and GetSetGoMedia in Cape Town to ensure we position One Africa TV as a key media vehicle for advertisers looking to reach Namibian audiences,” says Pretorius.
“Our core objective is to add media value to relevant advertisers and to leverage to the mutual benefit of all players the One Africa TV brand in South Africa.”
Pretorius lived and worked in London for six years as advertising sales director for the National Geographic Channels across the UK, the Middle East and Africa and brings a vast global knowledge to the One Africa TV business. In 2005 he returned to South Africa as regional director for the National Geographic and Fox Channels for Africa.
Another veteran of the media industry, Pete Oxlee, will head the sales operations for One Africa TV in South Africa up. Oxlee has since the 1980’s been in senior positions at M-Net Commercial Time Sales, the SABC, and Caxton. Oxlee also lived and worked in Kenya as general manager for Group Africa and brings with him a broad range of skills and a network of contacts to ensure K Motion Pictures delivers to the industry all the information and opportunities available.
In Cape Town One Africa TV will continue to be managed under GetSetGo Media (as part of the K Motion Pictures agreement with OATV) with Adri van der Westhuizen.
