Chris Booysen died suddenly on Tuesday, February 14. He had a long career in media. He leaves his wife Nan, son Brent, daughter Shoni and grandchildren. Chris started with the Argus Group as a cadet at the Diamonds Field Advertiser and later moved to Johannesburg, where he was a media salesman on the Sunday Express and Rand Daily Mail.
He was one of the best, attracting the interest of Terry Moolman and Noel Coburn, who were busy building their publishing empire, Caxton. Chris joined them and remained working with the Group for the duration of his working career – he was with them for almost 40 years.
His various positions were with Republican magazines, Afmed buses and Caxton magazines and he when he moved to Somerset West, he got involved with the labelling division of CTP in Parow, S A Litho.
Chris had the rare ability to listen and learn which made him a very good salesman. To those who worked with him, he could correct them and at the same time make them feel good. Not only a good salesman he was renowned as ‘a party animal’! One of the best of the best and some say ‘he was the best’!
There will be a celebration of his life on Friday, March 2, 2012 starting at 3.00 pm. This will be held at the Johannesburg Country Club, Auckland Park. We look forward to sharing this time with his many friends.
