It’s all happening on Yfm, billed as SA’s “most influential youth movement”. The youth radio station, on the dial at 99.2 YFM, has announced its 2012 DJ line up. And they’ve really stirred up the mix.
Leading the afternoon drive show is Tholi B. Tholi B is someone with ‘true Yfm DNA’, says the station. Mo Flava remains at the helm of the breakfast show. But the big surprise comes in the form of UJ campus radio DJ, Bryce ‘AnkleTap’ Clarke, who takes over the popular 12-3pm slot, making history as the first white DJ on the station. He will host The Tap Mansion in that timeslot.
Yfm is known for grooming young talent. And this year’s new-look line up stays true to it roots by placing young talent in prime time spots. It seems University of Johannesburg is producing some hot talent. Former YoTV presenter and Voice of Wits DJ, Musa Mthombeni is up, as is actress Thando Thabethe, famed for her role in SABC1’s My Perfect Family, who also comes out of campus radio.
“Our new line-up offers some of the hottest and best young DJs in the game today says YFM programming manager, Tumelo Diaho-Monaheng. The station also announced that they adding a new music mix format called YTKO that “promises to deliver a lively party atmosphere, turning any dull weekday at the office, into a weekend session at the club. This new daily mix feature, packed with good pure music is geared up and ready to introduce a new era in South African DJ culture”.
“This is a true coming of age story as a brand. YFM has come full circle, and with the introduction of YTKO the texture of live mixes on radio will be transformed and perfected. YFM ignites your passion and sets your soul on fire, whatever space the listener is in, we aim to MAKE THEM MOVE!” Diaho-Monaheng says.
“Our strategy and direction for the station is informed by the same basic principles the development of young radio talent and playing the freshest and hottest music. Music will always be YFMs core offering and we continuously strive for new ways to deliver the best music to the youth,” says Diaho-Monaheng.
Off the playlist is long-serving DJ, Dineo Ranaka, who leaves the station in 2012. She was the first female afternoon drive time DJ, and held the position for three years.
