Sunday will see an estimated 30 000 Bidvest employees and their families across three South African cities (Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town) unite for what is guaranteed to be a memorable day. Already the world record holder for the largest charity walk for one corporate group, the BIDVEST Unity Walk will be even bigger this year, moving from one city to three, and this year Bidvest staff will be walking for a specific purpose.
The 10 km walk kicks off simultaneously in Johannesburg at Bidvest Wanderers, in Cape Town at Sahara Park in Newlands and in Durban at the Sahara Kingsmead Stadium, all in the name of giving back to those in need and walking for those who can’t.
For every 75 staff members who join the walk on 12 August 2012, Bidvest, in collaboration with the Quadriplegic and Paraplegic Association of South Africa (QASA) will donate one wheelchair to those in need in the rural areas and townships of South Africa.
But the company is also challenging the media to get involved. For every nine members of the media who join the walk, Bidvest will donate one wheelchair – that’s just nine media as opposed to 75 staff members.
