A spokesman for the managing director of BDFM Publishing, Mzi Malunga, has confirmed that Malunga has been suspended from working at the media company.
Prince Maluleke, an attorney in Johannesburg, said Malunga had been suspended, but could not give the reasons why. “It’s enough to say that he respects the internal processes of the company and that as an employee, he is bound to let those processes take their course,” Maluleke told TheMediaOnline.
Editor of BDLive (formerly Business Day), Peter Bruce, said, “I genuinely don’t know why he has been suspended and I am not being told.”
Maluleke said he was not representing Malunga in the capacity of an attorney – he is the owner of Maluleke Attorneys and managing member of Akani Debt Solutions – but rather as a spokesman who is handling media queries around Malunga’s suspension.
BDLive posted a brief story on its website on Wednesday night announcing the suspension of Malunga. It said Malunga was a former financial journalist who had been managing director of BDFM Publishing since 2003.
