Future Cape Town has been announced as the social media and online partner for the Architecture ZA 2012 Biennial Festival, which is taking place at Cape Town City Hall from until 16 September. The festival kicks off the official Creative Week Cape Town and is an important event leading up to World Design Capital 2014.
‘Rescripting Architecture’ is the theme for this year’s event. The festival runs in conjunction with the annual Student Architect Festival, and also serves as the setting for the announcement of the awarded projects of the biennial SAIA Corobrik Awards of Merit and for Excellence, the ‘Oscars’ of the architecture industry.
The festival is a think-tank of international and local speakers that includes debates, master classes, exhibitions, a film festival and city tours. Architecture ZA 2012 follows on the success of the 2010 Biennial, which took place in Newtown and attracted more than a thousand delegates.
“Keenly interested in how architecture helps shape the dreams of future citizens of Cape Town, our followers, readers and fans share a universal interest in the way visionaries today see the functional role of an urban world tomorrow,” explains Rashiq Fataar, MD at Future Cape Town.
“Furthermore, we believe this initiative aligns perfectly with Cape Town’s 2014 World Design Capital aspirations and this partnership offers the organisers and our creative leaders an opportunity to connect with some of the new voices that are united in their passion to grow Cape Town into an accessible city for all who love it,” says Fataar.
In return, the team at Future Cape Town gets first-hand exposure to some of the latest trends and brightest architectural minds on the topic of ‘Rescripting Architecture’, and can package that content for an eager audience.
With this partnership, the robust and thought-provoking conversations held at Cape Town City Hall will now also be accessible live to Future Cape Town’s almost 10 000 loyal followers (@FutureCapeTown), including daily round-ups and insights on the website, https://futurecapetown.com/aza2012/
“By taking the message to a wider audience through social media, the message and principles of design and architecture become more accessible to more citizens,” said Festival Convener Daniel van der Merwe. “Architecture plays a critical role in inspiring more liveable cities, especially in a world dealing with the increasing demands of urbanization, and we’re extremely pleased to be working with Future Cape Town to spread this message.”
