GGi Communications has announced the promotion of Khuthalani Khumalo from account director to executive director. “Khuthalani has been with us for over four years & has led on many of our high profile clients, as well as growing our Africa network & division,” says Gillian Gamsy, CEO & Founder of GGi. “This is a well deserved appointment.”

Farewell to the YFM twins
YFM has announced after 5 years on air, YFM twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina, will be leaving the station at the end of March 2013.
“Line-up changes are common practice in the radio industry, particularly with a youth station like YFM. After careful consideration of all aspects of our on air offering, we have decided to make the necessary changes to YFMs programming, and unfortunately the Twins will no longer be with us from,” said programming manager Tumelo Diaho Monaheng.“In as much as we are totally committed to the development of young talent – like the Twins, we are also continually looking for new ways to enhance our station with new and exciting personalities.”
With growth and evolution being critical in the ever changing market, the brand changes each year to cater for our listeners,” said Monaheng.

Senior marketing officer/advisor for Aurecon
Aurecon’s Marketing & Communications team is looking to appoint a senior marketing officer/advisor. The M&C function is tasked with fulfilling two key roles within the Aurecon group, namely building and protecting the Aurecon brand; and developing and executing integrated marketing and communications programmes intended to build the group’s reputation, retain clients and support business growth.
This position is tasked with providing the full range of strategic marketing services, working with the broader M&C team, in fulfillment of these key roles for the benefit of the global group – at corporate, industry, regional, key client, competency and services levels.
A relevant degree or diploma is required. Unicef searching for communications, campaigns specialist
The candidate would work under the supervision of UNICEF ASU Chief of Communications in close consultation with the Global Campaign Manager of the Children and AIDS Campaign, as well as Regional Communication Advisors in UNICEF regional offices in East and Southern, as well as West and Central Africa, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to communication activities related to HIV and AIDS in Sub Saharan Africa.
As Johannesburg is the home of the UNAIDS global co-ordinator of the Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission campaign, as well as the Eastern and Southern Africa office for UNAIDS, and in light of the fact that ICASA will be held in Cape Town in December, the communication consultant based here to help support pan African activities, coordinate with HQ, regional and country offices, produce content, develop media opportunities and pitches to ensure children is on the HIV and AIDS agenda.

Diners Club appoints Bletchley Park to manage their communications
Creative marketing agency, Bletchley Park has been appointed to manage communications for Diners Club International. A key PR focus is the covetable Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Awards. The annual competition is arguably the most prestigious and well-respected awards within the South African wine industry. “

Alpha longboards awarded Constructus grant
Cape Town based entrepreneur, Kent Lingeveldt, who started the customised longboard business, Alpha Longboards, has been named the recipient of The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town)’s 2013 Constructus Award. The Constructus initiative was started by the creative agency in order to support, mentor and reward small local creative black-owned businesses.
“We hope to help transform Cape Town’s creative industry and build on a culture of innovation and creative entrepreneurship. We know that our city has no shortage of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. We wanted to work with small enterprises to develop this, so that they could turn big ideas into practical business models and creative solutions into entrepreneurial reality,” commented Claire Cobbledick, MD at The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town).
The initiative consists of two main elements: the Constructus Masterclass; and the Constructus Award. The Constructus Masterclass, an annual event now in its second year, focuses around a three day workshop in Cape Town, attended by local small creative businesses, where industry leaders share their insight in developing and growing brands and businesses. This year the workshop included presentations from local industry leaders including Ravi Naidoo from Interactive Africa (Design Indaba); Andile Khumalo, CIO of MGS Afrika Investment Holdings; musician Spoke Mathambo; and performance artist Athi Patrii Ruga.
Lingeveldt’s proposal saw him winning the Constructus Award – a R75 000 grant and ongoing access to the mentorship team at the agency.
Red Flag inks Lira Samsung deal as brand ambassador
Red Flag has announced the signing of one of the biggest ever endorsement deals for a South African artist. In a precedent setting deal, Lira has been signed on as the Pan-African brand ambassador for Samsung home appliances. The four year deal will be seeing the Samsung campaign rolled out in 10 African countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town) and Cape Town based creative agency 60 layers of cake South Africa, have announced their merger. Clients from 60 layers of cake are being notified of the changes and will be offered the opportunity to be serviced by the new strengthened combined service.
Michael van den Heerik, CEO at 60 layers of cake, will be taking up the position of business advancement director at Jupiter, and commented on the new business partnership, saying that “Jupiter has a formidable reputation in the industry, with whom I have a long history. When the opportunity arose for us to combine our expertise and business, it seemed a logical next step for us.”
Van den Heerik previously worked at Jupiter as operations director, leaving in 2010 to set up the 60 layers of cake operations in South Africa.
Commenting on his return to the business, Claire Cobbledick, managing director at Jupiter, said that Jupiter was looking forward to working with Van den Heerik again.
Client work and teams will slot into Jupiter’s structure, with creative, client service and specialist expertise being combined to best suits the needs of each client.
John Brown Media revitalises Edgars Club portal
Gorgeous fashion, dreamy holiday destinations, cool competitions and exclusive events are pulling in legions of new fans to the newly revamped Edgars Club website (https://www.edgarsclub.co.za/) and its associated digital platforms.
In less than six months John Brown Media, which secured the development of the Edgars Club website and its digital platforms, has increased web traffic, grown its Facebook fan base, drawn an 81% response rate (industry standard for Q3 2012 was 48%) and launched an inspirational new Pinterest offering.
“Traditionally the festive period is a little slower in the digital sphere, so we’re incredibly chuffed with the results we’ve achieved; from great organic growth on Facebook to a fantastic response from our digital community.
