Who’s moved where
Braganca joins Brewster
Monica Braganca, former head of consumer and pharmaceutical at Ogilvy PR, has been appointed as account director in the Johannesburg office of marcusbrewster.
An industry veteran with over 15 years’ consultancy experience, Braganca has worked with clients across all industry sectors including technology and business-to-business. Additionally, she has been active in social PR for several years.
“Monica is exactly the kind of multi-disciplinary executive who is driving the PR sector forward into its bright future,” says chairman Marcus Brewster. “As industry champions of integrated communication services, the firm doesn’t just need great PR people, it needs great all-rounders with complementary skills. “
Braganca says, “After six years spent at Ogilvy, the opportunity to work with Marcus, an industry leader, was very compelling. His firm has a very strong vision for the future – both of where the industry is heading and where marcusbrewster is evolving to answer market need. I look forward to being part of that vanguard of communication professionals”.
Outside of the office, Braganca is an extreme sports enthusiast, a passionate snowboarder and probably one of the smallest ladies you will find riding a Harley Davidson.
SAMRO announces new CEO as Motsatse steps down
The chairman of the board of directors of the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), Reverend Abe Sibiya, has announced the organisation’s chief executive officer (CEO), Nicholas Motsatse, will be stepping down from his role at the end of June this year. He will be replaced by the current deputy CEO, Sipho Dlamini.
In announcing the changes Sibiya said that Motsatse had informed him of his intention to step down during the latter part of last year. “It is with a mixture of sadness and loss, yet again, a sense of appreciation for one of our great leaders who has decided over a considerable period of time to explore much of what life has to offer while there is sunshine,” he said.
The incoming CEO, Sipho Dlamini, joined SAMRO at the beginning of 2012 as general manager of arketing. He was promoted to the position of deputy CEO at the beginning of 2013 to give him an opportunity to work closely with Motsatse.
“I am deeply honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead team SAMRO at this important juncture in its development. Having just passed the half a century mark as an organisation, I am fully aware of the challenges but also the opportunities lying ahead of SAMRO. It is therefore with a sense of excitement and anticipation that I accept this very important responsibility,” said Dlamini.
The rapidly changing business environment, especially for the copyright and music industries, will mean that the new pair of Sibiya and Dlamini will be critical in steering the organisation through some major developments.
DJ Sabby makes the shift to morning
YFM, SA’s biggest urban radio station, officially announced their 2013 line-up earlier this week. A few changes have been made to their line-up including DJ Sabby’s shift from the weekend midnight shows to weekend breakfast shows on Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 12:00.
Sabelo Mtshali, better known as DJ Sabby, is no stranger to radio, starting his radio career in 2009 where he featured on weekend mornings and weekday nights on Primedia’s Cape Town based commercial station, 94.5 KFM, after which he moved to 94.7 Highveld Stereo where he briefly hosted the late graveyard slot on weekends.
The natural next move for DJ Sabby was to go to YFM in 2010 when he enrolled in the YFM Y-Academy programme. After six months of the intensive programme he started off doing daily traffic on the station’s prime shows in the afternoon. In 2012 DJ Sabby was awarded his first radio show on YFM, The Adrenaline Rush, on weekends between 12:00 – 03:00.

Pierre Odendaal, chief creative officer, McCann Johannesburg, has been selected as the only creative from South Africa to adjudicate the African Cristal Festival. The event takes place from 11 – 14 April in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and is the first ever Pan-African summit for communication and media.
The three-day event is dedicated to the African continent and brings together the entire media and communication industry to network and to promote regional culture through industry-specific competitions, conferences and debates.

I’m expecting to see a wide range of work from the industry showcasing our continent’s diverse talent,” says Odendaal.
