Young South African director, Amr Singh of The Fort, has been nominated for this year’s prestigious SHOTS Young Director Award in Cannes, France. Since its inception in 1998, the award has supported and promoted emerging international creative talent in commercial film production. It is held annually at the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival.
Singh’s film Flower Seller will be competing against a selection of the most talented emerging directors from across the world. The nominees are selected by a panel of highly regarded and internationally acclaimed industry professionals. “It is an honour for my commercial to have been considered for such a respected award. I think that it is an indication of the standard of work that is being produced in South Africa” says Singh.
Singh, 28, was born in Cape Town and graduated from University of Cape Town’s Film and Media Department. Currently, he resides in Johannesburg. In 2007, Singh co-founded The Fort with producer, Shukri Toefy. The Fort is an integrated film and video production house, with offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town.In 2012, Singh was signed by Alchemy Films in Dubai and boasts a growing roster of international work.
The Young Director Award attracts one of the largest audiences at Cannes Lions, providing the winning directors with considerable exposure. The award ceremony will take place tomorrow.
