South Africa’s newest and much talked about commercial radio station POWER FM (98.7) has celebrated its first 100 days on air. The station was officially opened by Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and station’s chairman Given Mkhari on 18 June, ending months of anticipation after the line-up announcement earlier the same month.
“We are grateful to our POWER listeners, supporters and staff who have been with us through this journey. The impact of POWER FM is evidenced by the quality of advertisers already on board including leading banks, FMCG and telecommunications companies who have shown unprecedented support for POWER FM”, said station manager Ferdinand Mabalane.
“We’ve had amazing guests on the different shows including former President Thabo Mbeki, whose interview figuratively brought the country to a standstill, various CEOS of leading companies and highly engaging callers,” he says. “We were also recently switched on our new frequency in Soweto 103.6FM to help alleviate signal issues experienced in the area.”
Recently POWER FM emerged as the only broadcast platform that featured in the top 10 influential media in South Africa and was voted the second most influential media in business according to an analysis of the agenda setting media (ASM) for the first half of 2013, which was commissioned by Media Tenor SA.
