Red & Yellow appoints new CEO to drive growth agenda
Red & Yellow, one of the country’s leading marketing, advertising and communications schools, has appointed marketing and communications veteran Lynette Oelschig to drive its ambitious growth strategy. Prior managing director Diane Charton will be moving into a full-time lecturing role at the school to fulfil her passion for educating.
Oelschig brings more than 24 years of pan-African marketing, strategic communications, and management experience to the role. She has held senior positions at organisations such as M-Net, MWeb, Brand South Africa and an international Cellular Network in Nigeria. Most recently, she was an independent marketing and management consultant to the likes of Accenture, SA Parliament, Polytechnic of Namibia and University of Johannesburg.
Her role will be to oversee the expansion of Red & Yellow, with near-term plans to open a Johannesburg campus and longer-term plans to grow into other African countries. She will also lead Red & Yellow’s strategy to grow its set of digital learning offerings and to create hybrid learning experiences that blend the best of digital and classroom learning.
Says Red & Yellow chairman, Rob Stokes: “Our ambition for Red & Yellow is very clear. We want to cement our place as the best and most innovative marketing school in Africa by delivering world class learning that is highly practical in nature to 100,000 students by 2020. Lynette is most certainly the right person to enable us to deliver on this strategy.”
Apurimac Media appoints Nazareen Jakoet as CEO
Cape Town-based digital media and marketing company Apurimac Media has promoted its current COO Nazareen (“Naz”) Jakoet to the position of Chief Executive Officer. The appointment was made with effect from 27 November 2014.
Jakoet takes over the position of CEO from Apurimac Founder Will Green, who will now focus his time on sourcing strategic opportunities for the company that will position it as a leader in digital marketing across Africa. The daily management function will rest with Jakoet.
“Naz has been part of the Apurimac team for a long time. She has grown with us, and has developed into a trusted colleague and a respected voice in the digital marketing business. I cannot think of anyone better to take over this position from me,” said Green.
Jakoet joined Apurimac Media as a financial controller in 2009, and has since been steadily promoted. She has worked in debtors and creditor management as well as financial control, since 1999.
“I look forward to continuing the Apurimac project that Will started all those years ago,” said Jakoet. “With his support and that of the company’s senior management team, we will reach our goal of establishing a stronger presence across the African continent.”
Green founded the company in 2006. With offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, it represents a number of clients including Yahoo! for which it is the sole representative on the African continent.
New appointments announced at BDO SA
BDO South Africa has announced new appointments in the firm’s Durban office.
Bryan Galliver has been promoted to audit partner at BDO. He is a chartered accountant who has been exposed to various industries over the years including logistics, manufacturing, non-profit organisations, retail, travel and tourism, mineral resources, chemicals and a number of service-related entities.
Sumesh Somaroo has been appointed audit and assurance partner at BDO. He is a chartered accountant and registered auditor with expertise in pre-issuance reviews for Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Municipal Financial Management Act (MFMA) entities and a variety of public and private sector organisations.
Kevin Govender has been appointed audit manager at BDO. A chartered accountant, Kevin has experience in municipal internal audits, valuations and Haus has been appointed audit manager at BDO after a short break in service in 2014. She joined BDO Spencer Steward in February 2007 as a trainee accountant. She completed her articles with BDO and continued working in the audit department as a supervisor.
In Context announces Gauteng expansion, appoints Sarel du Plessis
Strategic business consultancy In Context has announced the establishment of a Gauteng office, under the guidance of media industry veteran, Sarel du Plessis.
“I have always enjoyed creating new opportunities within businesses through disruptive strategic thinking and actions, and In Context has been a leader in this field during the past 7 years. The establishment of a Gauteng office will enhance our service to existing clients and help us to build a new client base in the North,” says Du Plessis.

Cisco appoints government affairs director for Africa
Cisco has appointed Siyabonga Madyibi to the new position of government affairs director for Africa. This is Cisco’s first government affairs position for the continent.
In this new role Madyibi, who has over 14 years’ experience in telecom policy, will lead Cisco’s government affairs and public policy strategy in Africa, engaging with top government officials and key policy makers in Africa. His remit will focus initially on South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria working in close partnership and alignment the Cisco’s Africa Leadership team, led by David Meads, VP for Africa at Cisco, on policies and relationships that will advance Cisco’s business in Africa.
As the home to nine of the world’s 15 fastest growing economies, Africa is ripe for transformation making it an increasingly attractive environment for global business investments. Technology is at an inflection point, in which it can transform African economies and create many new opportunities, with the increased digitisation of countries. Subsequently, governments throughout the continent are now increasingly becoming aware of the importance of growth in ICT and the benefits it can offer.
Okuhle Media appoints Carmen Rabinowitz
Carmen Rabinowitz recently joined Okuhle Media as their commercial/relationship manager. She has 20 years industry experience and was previously employed at Ndalo Media as an Advertising & Sales Executive for Destiny & Destiny Man magazines as well as the marketing manager for SABC 3 magazine show, Top Billing. She hails from East London and completed an honours Diploma in Marketing, Advertising & Client Service from the AAA School of Advertising as well as a Diploma in Promotional Marketing from the Institute of Sales Promotion in London.

Logikal Consulting signs Verint Systems
Specialist IT consulting and integration house, Logikal Consulting, has signed a partnership agreement with Verint Systems. The NASDAQ listed company offers what it calls “actionable intelligence” solutions for customer engagement optimisation, security intelligence, and fraud, risk and compliance.
Under the terms of the agreement, Logikal Consulting will be the exclusive systems integration partner for Verint Systems in sub-Saharan Africa, providing consultancy and services around the company’s full product suite.
