With the South African Press Association (Sapa) no longer servicing media with news and news diaries, other newswires have sprung into action to fill the gap left by the 76-year-old wire service.
One of them is the African News Agency (ANA), which launched on 1 March. The new wire service is designed to support digital and traditional publishers in South Africa and content providers and media outlets on the African continent and worldwide. Independent Media’s substantial stable of print and digital publications has been using the wire service since inception and constructive discussions have been held with media companies such as Caxton, TNA, the SABC and eNCA to introduce them to ANA as potential subscribers.
The service will also include a comprehensive diary service for subscribers, as well as access to the extensive Associated Press, Xinhua and DPA international news wires for ANA subscribers. There will also be a PR service to which clients can subscribe to send out their media releases and statements.
