Primedia Broadcasting radio station 702 is increasing its political coverage, in the run up to the ANC’s National Elective Conference in December and the 2019 elections.
The station is launching a new show starting 2 October, airing Monday to Thursday from 8pm to 10pm, which will be hosted by political analyst and commentator, Karima Brown.
Explaining the reason behind the move in a release, 702 station manager Thabisile Mbete said, “South Africa is highly politically charged and our audiences are showing an increased need for deeper understanding of the stories and issues making the headlines daily.
“Karima’s extensive experience covering and commentating on South African politics, as well as her ability to pull in the key individuals, make her an ideal host for this new show,” she added.
Brown has already been hosting a weekly politics wrap on the station on Sunday nights since the beginning of this year and is also eNCA’s analyst. She is a highly regarded journalist with a lengthy list of credentials including political editor at Business Day; group executive editor at the Independent Media; she launched Forbes Women Africa magazine, and has hosted Political Exchange and Beyond Markets on CNBC Africa. She also helps corporates and other organisations make sense of the big issues facing SA in a facilitator and commentator role.
“I’m excited to bring the big names in the political sphere to the show, to discuss the issues and answer to 702 listeners,” said Karima in a statement. “The political stories that are dominating headlines are increasingly complex, and important for citizens to understand and I hope to play a role in helping them to connect the dots.”
The new show will have an impact on 702’s line-up with Night Talk with Gugs moving out by an hour, running from 10pm to midnight. Aubrey Masango’s show will run from midnight to 4am, and the Early Breakfast show with Relebogile Mabotja will broadcast from 4am to 6am.
