Ms Ayanda Dlodlo is the Minister of Communications of the Republic of South Africa with effect from 31 March 2017.
She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) and a Member of Parliament.
Academic Qualifications
Ms Dlodlo studied Shipping and Transport Management in the United Kingdom and holds a number of postgraduate qualifications in Management Development; Business Management and Executive Development Programmes.
Career/Positions/Memberships/Other Activities
Ms Ayanda Dlodlo joined the ANC in her teens and left South Africa at 18 for her military training in Angola. Having completed her 10 month basic training course, she went on to a specialist four-month course to prepare her for infiltration back into the country for political and military combat work.
Ms Dlodlo finished her training and joined the Transvaal Urban Machinery in Swaziland and was later deployed to the Transvaal Rural Machinery based in Zimbabwe.
She was later sent for Military Intelligence Training for a year in Russia in the former Soviet Union. Upon her return from training, she was deployed to Swaziland under the Natal Machinery. She served as Head of Intelligence for the Natal Machinery until her arrest and subsequent deportation to Zambia.
Ms Dlodlo went on to study Shipping and Transport Management at the London Institute of Shipping in the United Kingdom and was elected Head of the Youth Section for England and Northern Ireland.
On her return to South Africa in 1994, she worked for PortNet and later joined Telkom as the Regional Fleet Manager for Gauteng. She spent six months at the New York and New Jersey Port Authority and did another six months with Associated British Ports.
Ms Dlodlo was later headhunted by Sanlam and worked at their head office for a short while until she was headhunted to head the Department of Safety and Security in the Gauteng Provincial Government. She was seconded to the then Directorate of Special Operations (Scorpions) as National Deputy Head.
Ms Dlodlo was elected Secretary-General of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Military Veterans Association in 2006 and elected on to the ANC National Executive Committee in 2007.
She is the Chairperson of the ANC Legislature and Governance Subcommittee.
Ms Dlodlo was appointed Minister of Communications by President Jacob Zuma with effect from 31 March 2017.

In 2009 she became a Member of Parliament and was appointed Parliamentary Counsellor to President Zuma.
Ms Dlodlo was appointed as Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration on 1 November 2010 by President Zuma. In the same year, she was appointed South Africa?s Envoy to the Open Government Partnership. She was re-appointed as Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration on 26 May 2014.
