The radio wars are hotting up, especially on the streets of Cape Town. Firstly, there was a very public showdown between Good Hope FM’s breakfast host, Nigel Pierce, and The Knob when The Knob left him for the Phat Joe breakfast show at Heart104.9, just down the drag.
Then this morning, a mob protested outside Heart104.9’s studios in Green Point, leading people to believe it was a protest by P.O.K.E (people opposing kak entertainment) against the station’s gay wedding reality show. Not surprisingly, confronted by the mob, Phat Joe thought it was for real.
But…
Kagiso Lediga, one of SA’s top black comedians and creator of the comedy TV series the Pure Monate Show was the one causing chaos in the streets of Cape Town this morning. Over 80 ‘protesters’ joined his rally and marched along sidewalks through the city towards the studio in Green Point.
Six of the city’s police vehicles attempted to stop the protest thinking it was legitimate. Luckily no action was taken. The protest lasted for more than one hour until Phat Joe came out to calm the crowd with little success before sending in newly acquired Heart 104.9FM’s action man, The Knob, to assist.
The reason for all the fuss? Well, actually, it appears that Kagiso is to be the MC at the gay wedding which will take place on March 26, 2011! The crowd dispersed soon after Kagiso’s identity and intention was revealed.
