Kaap-Rapport is closing. The Cape’s regional supplement of the national Sunday newspaper will be printed for the last time this Sunday [November 6].
Tim du Plessis, head of Media24’s Afrikaans news, sent out a notice to staff today. “Closing down a title or supplement is always a last resort, but Kaap-Rapport’s losses eventually became too heavy. The management of Rapport wishes to express its thanks to everyone involved in Kaap-Rapport and who served with dedication over the years,” he wrote in the internal announcement.
Du Plessis said the closure of Kaap-Rapport “does not affect the activities of Rapport’s editorial team and its advertising and distribution teams in the Cape office. Rapport’s news editorial office in Cape Town remains unchanged and will continue to contribute to Rapport’s weekly news offering.”
Six staff members have been affected by the news. “Some have already been moved into other positions and negotiations are in progress with others,” Du Plessis said.
