One-eyed Jack, secures Savanna as Presenting Partner for Comic’s Choice Awards
Specialist sponsorship agency One-eyed Jack has confirmed that Savanna will be the ‘Official drink of Funny’ for this year’s Comic’s Choice Awards. With the Awards positioned as being ‘Serious about Funny’, the collaboration couldn’t be more spot on.
“Sourcing brand partners for comedy is always a challenging exercise, as in South Africa there are only a few brands that play in the comedy arena”, comments Manuela de Deus, director of sponsorships at One-eyed Jack. “The key was to identify a brand that not only activates off of the comedy platform, but is proudly South African and supports our local talent. Savanna was the perfect choice.”
Launched by John Vlismas in 2011, the Comic’s Choice Awards is a comic’s event. It is organised, designed, built and supported by the local comedy industry. The awards are given by comedians to comedians, so its no surprise that it is regarded as the most credible award that a local comedian can win.
The 2nd Annual Comic’s Choice Awards are scheduled to take place at Montecasino’s Teatro on 10 July. Registration for comics opens on 5 March 2012 on www.comicschoice.co.za
The media partners for the event are Mzansi Magic, Kaya FM and The Times. The Times is also the sponsor of a new award for 2012: The Times Comic Pen Award.

Ireland/Davenport has won awards for print, radio and television in this month’s Creative Circle awards. “We are proud to have received these accolades,” says Philip Ireland, executive creative director and co-founder of the agency.
“It is the second month in a row that we have won Ad of the Month and it is all because we have a passionate team of people who can work together to create truly amazing ads, not to mention our incredible clients who buy creative work, that works.”
The much talked about Walking Dead Season 2 campaign came out tops in the TV category with its ad titled ‘Bedtime Story’, while the agency’s campaign for National Geographic Channels’ The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan was awarded both first and second place in the Print category.
