In a few weeks judging panels of whinging Englishmen; precise, humourless Germans; taciturn Russians; unbelievably biased Brazilians and a few really sussed, radness-personified South Africans will be picking over the world’s best work (and some of the worst) in Cannes.
Then, by a terrifying and pitiless show of hands, they will be dishing out Cannes Lions. But just before they do their bit, ididthatad’s wise, discriminating, rather handsome panel, of guest predictors (not a Brazilian in sight), will be doing theirs.
Yes that’s right, proudly brought to you by those wonderful people at Egg Films, it’s ididthatad’s Cannes Predictions 2012 (www.ididthatadpredictions.com).
Brett Morris, Jenny Glover, Alistair King, Brad Reilly, Colin Howard, Wallace Seggie and Chris Gotz (that’s moi) will be casting their eyes and ears over South Africa’s hopefuls in search of potential Lions. Hopefully there will be a few. Otherwise we will all throw ourselves in front of Ferraris outside the Palais. Or, if we do really badly, Citroens.
The predictions will be released before the lucky few jet off to Cannes on the 16th June.
Live updates will happen from the Festival, just in case we’ve missed something. But to make sure we don’t, send us your lovely work. We’ve already put together a collection of eligible pieces from Ad of the Month and the other award shows. The guest predictors will begin selecting pieces in the next few days. If you have something you think will be in with a shout then send it to Julie Maunder, high priestess of ididthatad, at julie@ididthatad.com.
