TEDxCapeTown recently selected a PocketMedia Solution’s ‘Unidentified Folding Object’ (UFO) to use as a programme for its ‘What we play is life’ event, held recently at the Baxter Theatre.
“TEDxCapeTown showcases inspirational ideas, but these are not just good ideas. These are ideas that challenge our very assumptions of the system we see ourselves a part of,” says event co-curator Bernelle Verster.
“Famous jazz musician Louis Armstrong once said ‘what we play is life’. This quote inspired the theme for TEDxCapeTown 2012. It illustrates the light side of life and alludes to the fact that life is a game which we have to play and certain rules apply. But how we play and how we perform is ultimately up to us,” she adds.
TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to the mission of ‘ideas worth spreading.’ The “x” in TEDxCapeTown means it is an independently organised event, licensed by TED.
“This was the first PocketMedia Solution’s UFO to be printed on recycled cardboard, and was 200mm x 200mm in size,” says John Davis, the MD of PocketMedia Solutions. It not only featured the event programme and sponsors, but also a short biography and photograph of each the 19 speakers.
