Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town (O&M CT) has become the first South African agency ever to have work included in one of the prestigious Communication Arts Interactive annuals, which have been published since 1959 in the advertising, photography, design, illustration and, more recently, interactive categories.
Based in California, Communication Arts is described as the world’s largest international trade journal of visual communications.
O&M CT made this breakthrough with its ground-breaking Volkswagen Street Quest campaign which was one of only 35 projects – selected from 1 500 entries – for the 2013 Interactive Annual.
Street Quest was an innovative campaign that combined Facebook with Google’s Street View to create an online game which was a virtual interpretation of the old favourite family car game ‘punch buggy’. It originated from within Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town’s digital team, OgilvyOne, and cleverly demonstrated just how prolific Volkswagens are in South Africa: over 400 000 Volkswagens were pinned, while activity on the Volkswagen South Africa Facebook page increased by more than double.
OgilvyOne Creative Director, Nicholas Wittenberg, says he is “incredibly proud of the campaign and the remarkable response it has generated from Street Quest players, the broader Facebook community and our industry peers both locally and globally”.
