For 10 years the August issue of The Media magazine has recognised and celebrated outstanding women across the fourth estate. Our reasons for doing so were motivated by a significant lack of females in positions across the sector including at board and executive level.
More particularly when women were granted a title it was bereft of the decision making power usually associated with such positions. We wished to ‘out’ the good ones, acknowledge the lifetime achievers and encourage rising stars.
We unearthed gems considered mentors by men and women alike, women who changed the roles and status of women around them, influenced business plans, content and legislation. From media agency managing directors to editors, researchers, producers and presenters. We celebrated achievements, highlighted their significance and watched them flourish.
The August 2013 issue of the magazine will continue in this tradition. This year, while we may not be having a huge bash at Summer Place, we are going broader into the various areas in our industry and trying to make sure we don’t neglect the unsung heroes among us. But we don’t want to ask a few people of note and write the story, we want to hear it from you, the winners, mentors and media leaders.
So, WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE. I am going to list the different categories and I ask that you take some time to go through these and write down the names of women you believe are excelling and making a real impact in these areas. Then, please give us a serious (100-200 word) motivation for each one you have chosen to nominate and a CV if possible.
Please could you send these nominations to me by no later than Friday ,May 31.
These will then be collated and the judges (The Media editorial board) will choose the winners in each segment.
I really appreciate your time and investment in the women in our industry. For some of you, who are past winners, you know what this honour means. Please pass it onto women who are really making an impact.
So, consider a lifetime achiever, rising star and a woman who is at the peak of her career in the following categories:
1. newspapers
2. magazines
3. television
4. out of home media
5. radio
6. online/digital
7. media law
8. media research
9. media agencies
10. marketing
11. advertising agencies
12. public relations agencies
13. If there is an area we haven’t covered here but you feel someone deserving should be nominated, go for it.
