South Africa’s biggest online food site, Food24.com, has been invited to attend the Global Diago Reserve World competition – the world’s biggest mixology competition – on board the cruise liner, Azamara Voyager, as it journeys through the Mediterranean between 4-9 July.
As a media partner, Food24.com will also be the only African portal providing live, up-to-date and behind-the-scenes news on happenings aboard the ship. Considered a landmark event on the mixology circuit, and where the latest fine drinking trends are unveiled, the voyage begins in the French Riviera, stopping in some of the Mediterranean’s most iconic and chic destinations including Nice, Monte Carlo, St Tropez, Ibiza and Barcelona.
In the competition, South Africa’s Nick Koumbarakis will compete against the world’s best bartenders from over 50 countries for the coveted title of Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year.
“We are delighted to have Food24 on board and they will present the most immediate coverage of this, the world’s biggest mixology competition, as well as insight into global luxury drinking trends to a South African audience,” says Dominic Bothner, Brandhouse (Diageo) Reserve’s National Category Development Manager.
“The art of mixology has moved in leaps and bounds to a place where craft and liquid combine to form a unique flavour performance by both cocktail and maker. We are very excited about the partnership and to be working with the front-runners – including our own homegrown alchemist Nick Koumbarakis – in the Diageo Reserve WORLD CLASS Bartender of the Year,” says Food24 Editor, Caro de Waal.
