Taking reader-generated content and consumer engagement once step further, Getaway has launched a video competition that will see the winner experience a dream holiday to one of a host of bucket-list destinations, including Chobe Game Reserve, the Serengeti, Zanzibar and Phuket – and showcase the brand’s own packages in the process.
Project Getaway invites readers to submit travel videos in three categories. Those that are good enough will be posted on the Getaway website weekly until the end of November, with the best entry winning R20 000 towards one of the travel magazine’s adventure packages.
“Visual storytelling and content sharing are two of the strongest factors in the current digital arena,” explained Getaway’s web editor, Tyson Jopson. “By asking people to show us (and the world) what travel means to them, we hope to create a platform for visual storytelling that will, aside from showcasing great user-generated travel videos, reveal how and why people travel. This kind of information helps us tailor future content and allows us to engage with our audience on a level we haven’t before. Added to that, the competition is aligned with our focus to drive traffic to our own adventure travel options.”
The three categories are ‘Packing shorts’ (videos up to one minute in length), ‘Fives alive’ (up to five minutes) and ‘Long way round’ (up to 10 minutes). Full details of the competition are available at https://competitions.getaway.co.za/enter/win-r20000-holiday-project-getaway.
