This week’s BIG move: Special Assignment’s Hazel Friedman scoops top award
Hazel Friedman has scooped an award at the Vodacom Western Cape TV journalist of the year awards for her Special Assignment programme, the Cape of Wars. The award was for Best Television Feature in the Western Cape region.
In this two-part programme Special Assignment provided an analysis of the situation in Lavender Hill, the gangs involved and the uneasy truce being brokered by former gangsters-turned-peacemakers. The programme also looked at the efforts by the city and the province to protect a community under siege.
The documentary was filmed by SABC News cameraman, Marc Mullenberg, and freelance cameraman, Adil Cooke, who share the award.

Precious Nkwane is senior brand manager of Jungle Oats
Jungle Oats have appointed Precious Nkwane as their new senior brand manager. Jungle Oats is part of the breakfast category at Tiger Brands and says it is proud to have Nkwane as part of their team.

Starting out as a trainee graduate in the Tiger Brands graduate programme in 2007, within the Tastic brand team, she worked in various roles over a four and a half years tenure, which included the positions of brand manager and shopper manager within the Tastic brand team.
Morvite appoints Mate Mamabolo as their new senior brand manager
Morvite is part of the breakfast category at Tiger Brands. It has appointed Mate Mamabolo as part of their team. Mamabolo, Morvite’s new senior brand manager, started off at Revlon as an intern, working her way up to brand manager of the hair category. From there she moved to Tiger Brands, learning the ropes across a wide variety of industries ranging from fabric and dish, through the pesticide category and even gaining experience in the hand and body category.
This new position marks a move into a new category, that of breakfast and Morvite in particular. Mamabolo sees this as an opportunity to engage consumers in a relationship with the brand, educating South Africans on the significance of breakfast. Driven by her belief in passionate commitment to a brand, this dedicated young woman is determined to focus on the benefits of breakfast as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Irvine Bartlett secures New Media Publishing PR account
Irvine Bartlett has secured the public relations account of South Africa’s award-winning content marketing agency, New Media Publishing.

Communication Services Africa scores L’Ormarins Queens Plate
Communications Services Africa, the communication strategist division of Celebrity Services Africa (C.S.A), has once again been selected as the PR and communications agency of record for the 153rd L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate event, taking place on 11 January, 2014, at Kenilworth Race Course.
One of South Africa’s premier horseracing events, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is renowned as an esteemed celebration of equestrian excellence, art, style and culture. Since it’s inaugural presentation in honour of Queen Victoria in 1861, the race has become one of the Cape’s foremost calendar events.

SAARF CEO wins Pamro Award
Dr Paul Haupt, CEO of the South African Audience Research Foundation (SAARF) was awarded the Piet Smit PAMRO Achiever of the Year Award at the 15th PAMRO Meeting and All Africa Media Research Conference, held in Antananarivo, Madagascar from 25-28 August this year.
This is the Pan African Media Research Organisation’s top honour, awarded to an individual or group deemed to have made a significant contribution to media audience research.
Dr Haupt was honoured as “an icon of audience measurement across Africa, a pioneer par excellence”; these were the words of PAMRO’s president, Josiah Kimanzi of TNS RMS Nigeria, which appear on the certificate.
Sifiso Falala, CEO of award-sponsor Plus 94 Research, said that what stood out for him in particular was “Paul’s bravery, tenacity and diplomacy when it comes to championing the greater good in the field of media audience research.”
Waltons sponsor the Proteas of tomorrow
