Primedia appoints new CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres
Primedia has announced the appointment of Wanda Matandela as CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
Matandela has a strong leadership background in various consumer-facing roles in industries spanning FMCG, banking and mobile telecommunications. He joins Ster-Kinekor from Vodacom, where he has spent the past seven years in a number of functions across regions. Most recently, he was managing executive of the consumer division and then later the enterprise division within Vodacom.
Matandela started his career at South African Breweries, has held several executive positions at ABSA, and was CEO of the Commercial Vehicles Division of Wesbank.
“I am excited to be a part of this dynamic, vibrant and innovative organisation,” he said. “I look forward to working with an accomplished team that constantly touches people’s emotions – both young and old – in a positive way, in both South Africa and across our borders where Ster-Kinekor has a presence.”
Ster-Kinekor Theatres is a wholly-owned business of the Primedia Group and is the largest movie exhibitor on the African continent.
New generation of management at Creative Zoo Advertising
The face of Creative Zoo Advertising (CZA) has changed with dynamic young leadership having taken over the reins of the established Joburg-based ad agency. Sibling duo, Bjorn and Brigitta Annegarn, are the company’s new directors. Company founder, Eric Annegarn, has taken up a position of chairman.
Both have worked within the agency for a number of years, but each come from a diverse background. Director of perations Bjorn, with a hospitality management background, brings with him exceptional customer oriented service and staff management skills. He also has a strong drive for quality. Brigitta meanwhile, who is director of client services, comes from a business management background, which is complimented by her creative flair. She had a career in management consulting with Deloitte and thereafter finished her MBA at UCT Graduate School of Business.
“As part of our fresh new approach we’re embracing change, new technology and new ways of doing things,” said Brigitta. “This has been very well received by our existing clients because it’s almost like them getting a new agency, without having to change agencies, and at the same time we still understand their fundamental marketing principles.”

Online community of commerce connects businesses in Africa in real time
Africa Business Connect is Africa’s first truly connected community of commerce that allows businesses – from small enterprises to governments and corporates – to connect in real time via an online platform allowing for business growth and expansion and interaction in real-time.
“Africa Business Connect launched its beta testing phase a short while ago and today has in excess of 30 000 businesses registered and engaging directly with each other,” says Hardus Hurter, co-founder and CEO of Africa Business Connect .
“We soon realised that one of the key factors for businesses looking to expand or come into the African continent was the perceived lack of credible business resource facilities and from that point the idea of having a virtual community of commerce was born.”
The purpose of Africa Business Connect is to be a single repository of vetted businesses and suppliers wanting to do business in Africa with other African Businesses or global companies.
Africa Business connect offers business a platform to share their details, information, business opportunities, tenders or seek out other businesses to trade with in an environment that is safe and secure and where a fair amount of vetting has already taken place by the curators of Africa Business Connect, allowing businesses to connect and explore trade opportunities across Africa.
RedBooks offer a professional edge
Newsclip has been “blown away” by the overwhelming amount of positive feedback they’ve received from clients about their digital RedBook offering. PR practitioners and communication professionals have consistently praised the level of leadership the RedBook offers in both its delivery and presentation of media coverage.
Interactive and user-friendly by design, the RedBooks are fully-customisable, allowing clients to personalise their front cover, and the order of their media clips alphabetically, by date, or according to AVE value. This ensures a professional looking product to deliver to clients on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.
“The RedBook is a comprehensive at-a-glance record of client coverage that facilitates easy presentation, whether in hard copy format or – most efficiently – as an electronic presentation that can be shared with many at one time,” says Janice Fridjhorn of Outsorceress Marketing, who has been using the service since March.
The RedBook allows clients to effectively share all their media coverage with collegues, clients and stakeholders, something the PR specialist for Mazda Southern Africa, Nosipho Mamitshana, finds incredibly useful. “With RedBook, we are able to collate and share media coverage and actual press articles, all beautifully packaged in one book with Mazda South Africa staff, our dealers and stakeholders,” she says.
Known affectionately as a ‘Brag Book’, RedBooks consistently provide an easy and effective way to share media coverage.
