All the models on the cover are Afrikaans musicians who write their own music and perform their own songs.R

“We planned to pay tribute to great male, Afrikaans musicians by releasing a CD with their music on it. When playing around with ideas for the cover, we decided to promote them further by featuring them on it,” said Louïne van der Vyver, editor of DEKAT.

“Only when we were actually doing the cover, did we realise that 21 models is the highest number of models to feature on a cover in the world. It happened by chance,” she said.

Van der Vyver said the DEKAT team did research on the internet and contacted Vogue and Vanity Fair, which previously held the record with 18 cover models.

“It is great to be able to do something positive for our readers and for South African music.”

Landscape artist Strijdom van der Merwe designed the concept for the cover.
