Media moves…The latest news on media moves and appointments. Who is going where, when, how and why they’re moving on. Who’s won accounts, who’s lost.

New editor to drive Automobil

The Retail Motor Industry has welcomed the appointment of Caroline Gibbs as editor of Automobil, the official RMI publication. The September issue will be the first under her helm. Gibbs brings to the role 10 years experience managing her own communications consultancy and several years as publications manager of Toyota SA and senior manager at Fox Publishing.

July will be the first issue of Automobil under the RamsayMedia banner – available to RMI members at the end of June – and will be accompanied by the launch of a new website and webletter, which will also form part of Gibbs’ portfolio.

Chris Burgess appointed Editor-in-Chief of Media24 agri mags

Media24 Weeklies has announced the appointment of Chris Burgess as the new editor-in-chief of Landbouweekblad, Farming SA and SA Jagter/SA Hunter. Burgess completed his honours degree in journalism in 1997 at Stellenbosch University and was appointed editor of Farmer’s Weekly in 2001, a position he has held until now.

At the time he was one of the youngest editors ever to head up a South African national magazine. During his time there the magazine earned several awards, one of which was the Sappi Pica Magazine Award for Best Business Magazine in South Africa (2006). Chris was a finalist in last year’s Pica Editor of the Year competition and has also done freelance work for titles such as De Kat, Mail and Guardian, Weg and Go!

Tuned In to new clients

Entertainment public relations agency Tuned In Publicity has been on a new business drive and has signed on a number of big names in the local music industry industry.

  • 2009 Idols winner Jason Hartman, who recently performed at the Monaco Grand Prix and will be writing and performing a song for the new royal couple, Prince Albert II of Monaco and South African Charlene Wittstock.
  • Former Big Brother Africa and Egoli star Stefan Ludik, who is currently promoting his debut English album Burn This Town with his band Ludik.
  • The Graeme Watkins Project who have had a smash hit with their single Music Affair. Graeme was a finalist in 2009 Idols and a regular face on e.tv’s Rhythm City.

“It is always an honour and a pleasure to work with such great talent and it makes for exciting times being a part of their respective teams on their musical journeys,” said Tim Hill, co-founder of Tuned In Publicity. The agency, founded in 2010 by Martin Myers and Tim Hill, handles media relations for local bands and artists and has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg. The company works with numerous artists including Justin Bergh, Evolver One, Dalen Lance and Ernie B St Clair, amongst others.
