Who’s moved where

Ubank appoints Qhamkile Makhosi Boyede as the Head of Group Strategy

Financial services provider, Ubank has announced the appointment of Ms Qhamkile Makhosi Boyede as the head of group strategy. Luthando Vutula, CEO at Ubank said, “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Ms Boyede to the Ubank family, as her impressive list of credentials and 11 years of strategic banking experience will help her steer the bank to the next level”. Boyede is an experienced leader specialising in business strategy, project management and programme implementation. Prior to joining Ubank in October this year, she was held the position of chief administrative officer at Absa Capital and she was part of the ABSA family for almost 10 years.

In short… Siphokazi Madlingozi has been appointed as a brand manager  for  the general entertainment department at M-Net. Chantal Riley is now Digital Editor at Models & Pageantry SA magazine

Who’s won what

Taj Cape Town appoints marcusbrewster

The five-star hotel, Taj Cape Town, has appointed marcusbrewster as its PR agency of record. The award-winning firm will manage a spread of communication channels integrating publicity and media relations with other marketing support services to further enhance the image of this iconic property.

Spread across two heritage buildings, Taj Cape Town retains the original marble pillars, vaulted ceilings, glass domes and architectural elements of the legendary Temple Chambers and the South African Reserve Bank Building dating back to the late 19th century.

“We are excited to represent Taj Cape Town, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, as they are the pre-eminent luxury hotel in the Mother City and because we share similar values in professional service and attention to detail,” says chairman Marcus Brewster. The Taj Cape Town account was won in a five-way pitch.

Dstv selects MallWorx for festive season retail push

DStv has selected Primedia Unlimited’s in-mall activation company, MallWorx, to strategically position its branding in shopping malls across the country and generate awareness and brand association with middle market consumers about DStv Compact, DStv Family and DStv Access until mid-January 2014.

“This DStv campaign forms part of the peak retail push over the festive season, when consumers are much more relaxed and spend a significantly larger portion of their time inside shopping malls,” says MallWorx’s Lee Curtis. Middle end shopping malls such as Bridge City, Gugulethu, Middestad, Sancardia, The Boulders, Trade Route Mall, Empangeni, Golden Acre, Chatsworth, The Bridge, Westgate, Liberty Promenade, Southgate and Randburg Square already sport DStv’s branding on MallWorx’s engaging platforms like glass walls, escalators, lift billboards, pillar wraps and interior billboards to name a few.

Who’s making moves

Metaio wins 2013 Volkswagen Augmented Reality Tracking Challenge Metaio has won the 2013 Volkswagen Augmented Reality Tracking Competition in Germany. Metaio competed with three other teams from countries around Europe and won overall by excelling in two of four tracking scenarios.

Tracking, or the ability to recognise and continuously overlay or attach digital content to a real-world object as it moves through space, is perhaps the most important aspect of any augmented reality technology. Volkswagen began the Augmented Reality Tracking Competition in order to evaluate and determine the best technology available for industrial and high-precision environments.
