ASM Communications is hosting a conference on creative writing for the media in Bloemfontein in September. The aim of the conference is to empower delegates with tools and techniques on how to produce clear and compelling writing that gets read, published and remembered. The conference will deliberate on the most common concerns, trends and challenges facing creative writers.
It will cover rhetoric and speech act theory, the application of creative writing when writing press statement, which will ensure that the message is communicated effectively without ambiguity. The gathering will discuss and examine in depth, key principles of editing text and explore at length the basic rules of writing styles.
The event will review the impact of bad writing which has profound ramifications in determining if a speech or media release gets published. It will address the ethical considerations in the creative writing space by highlighting the dangers and implications of plagiarism. It also looks at feature articles, writing creative headlines and captions as well as media relations and its components media monitoring and analysis.
Speakers include Professor Henning Pieterse, director of creative writing at the University of Pretoria and Lola Lazarus, founder of Bullion PR.
The conference is taking place on the 10 and 11 September 2014 at the Southern Sun Hotel, Bloemfontein, Free State.
