Netwerk24 this week launched #topstories – the first ever Afrikaans video news bulletin. The daily show will go live at 13:00 on South Africa’s largest Afrikaans news portal, Netwerk24.com.
Hosted by TV presenter Elma Smit (known for her work at kykNET and 5FM), #topstories is produced by Netwerk24’s multimedia and news teams. The five-minute daily bulletin will present a summary of the top local and international news stories of the day, along with interviews and user-generated content.
“We identified a need for visual online news to showcase our video footage and exclusive stories,” says Adriaan Basson, editor-in-chief of Netwerk24. “#topstories is a snapshot bulletin that focuses on the three to five biggest stories of the moment.”
“We will mainly be using our own original video footage, and wire footage for international stories, but encourage readers to send us their own video clips as well. #topstories will be a fast-paced, visually attractive show, highlighting the stories you really need to know about to participate in informed chats around the water-cooler,” adds Basson.
