Friday night (8 May) saw the annual ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuur Vereniging) media awards, presented at a prestigious event at Vodaworld in Midrand. Radio Sonder Grense shone in the radio category, winning six MediaVeertjies (name of the media awards).
The annual media awards are presented to those individuals who deliver an outstanding contribution towards the Afrikaans language, in the media segment, during the course of a specific period. Each category prize winner receives a cash amount of R3 500 and a trophy to keep.
This year’s media awards had a nostalgic look at the beginning of Afrikaans radio, TV, newspapers and magazines. The past was honoured with the celebration of current media excellence through creative and inspiring work.
RSG presenters and programme makers have won in the following categories:
- Best presenter or interviewer of an entertainment- or journal programme: Martelize Brink for her feature on Edwin Cameron in Oggend op RSG
- Best insert in an entertainment- or journal programme: Johan van Lill his insert on 80 years of Ballet in RSG Kuns
- Best insert in a news- or actuality programme: Izak du Plessis for his insert on farm attacks on Monitor
- Best entertainment- or journal program: Martelize Brink for the programme Oggend op RSG
- Best documentary or program series: Johan Rademan for Robbeneiland: simbool van demokrasie on RSG
- Best radio drama or –theatre: Margot Luyt for As die donker die son insluk on RSG
There were also award sections for newspapers, magazines, TV and online.
