The SABC won a total of 31 awards for its ‘cream of the crop’ on-air talent and content producing expertise in programming as well as two awards in the ‘Hall of Fame’ category at the recent MTN Radio Awards. Umhlobo Wenene FM was the biggest winner taking the award for PBS Radio Station of the year.
“It is particularly humbling for the station to be honoured and recognised through awards by the industry in which it operates. It means a lot to us as it is recognition of the good work the station is doing both in its programmes and the station’s overall performance. I would like to congratulate and thank the Breakfast Show team, drama producers and actors, Umhlobo Wenene FM management and the entire Umhlobo Wenene FM staff for their dedication and commitment to the success of the station. The Station of the Year Award is the biggest achievement in the history of the station and it is dedicated to all of them and Umhlobo Wenene FM Listeners. Enkosi, Enkosi, Enkosi , thank you,” says station manager Phumzile Mnci.

Thobela FM won the My Station award, voted for overwhelmingly by its listeners. It also won two other awards, Daytime show’ (PBS winner) for Sedibeng , and the Music Show award for Thobela FM Top 10 Le Thabo.
“We as Thobela FM are excited and proud of the My Station award,” says Moshongwa Matsena Thobela FM’s station manager. “The station is dedicating this award to all the Thobela FM staff members but most importantly to the listeners who voted for us.”
