Winners of Huisgenoot’s annual Tempo Awards, which honour Afrikaans stars across the arts, television and literature, were announced in Gauteng last night.
“It’s a privilege to be able to honour Afrikaans talent and to thank them for what they do for our readers. To be an artist means that you are always giving something of yourself – on stage, in front of the camera, at your computer when you’re writing. And it’s this emotion that resonates with the people that watch you, listen to you or read your work. Huisgenoot’s readers voted for their favourites and thanked them with a Tempo award for this soul connection they offer,” says Henriëtte Loubser, editor of Huisgenoot.
Pad na Jou Hart was one of the night’s big winners, scooping the Tempo award for Movie of the Year (Afrikaanse Rolprent van die Jaar) and its co-producers and writers, Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts, were crowned Actor and Actress of the Year: Movie, Drama, Sitcom (Akteur en Aktrise van die Jaar: Rolprent, Drama, Sitkom) for their roles in this hit film.
Actress Sandra Prinsloo was honoured for her contributions to Afrikaans theatre and television (Afrikaanse Erfenislater) and the audience was entertained with performances by Karlien van Jaarsveld and Adam, Chris Chameleon and Bittereinder, Joe Foster, Arno Carstens and Dan Patlansky. Expresso presenter Katlego Maboe served as master of ceremonies.
