What is the reason behind HOT 91.9 FM’s rapid rise?

The most notable move in Hot 91.9 FM’s new lineup sees three decade radio veteran Sasha Martinengo filling the morning drive-time slot, hosting The Hottest Breakfast Show alongside the morning team of John Walland, Andy Leve, Simon Hill and Kwanele Kunene. Martinengo replaces Darren Scott, who departed to take up a slot on OFM.

The multiple 2017 Radio Award winning station also unveiled the debut of Bunny Majaja, a graduate of the Hot 91.9 FM radio academy, who will host the 2pm to 4pm slot. In a press release the station said Majaja “is a multi- talented all round entertainer who brings her charm, wit, knowledge and infectious laughter to the airwaves”.

Other moves include:

  • Sports presenter John Walland giving listeners a daily dose of news and features, hosting his own show from 6:30pm – 7pm, Monday to Thursday called Hot Sport.
  • Breakfast presenter Andy Leve taking on a brand new show every Sunday from 6pm – 9pm called The Sound of SA, showcasing the latest and hottest SA Sounds.
  • Treasure Tshabalala adds another slot on his Hot rotation with Jazzland every Sunday from 9pm to Midnight.

Speaking on the changes, Hot 91.9FM founder and managing director Lloyd Madurai commented, “The station prides itself on its unique on-air blend of established household names and emerging new talent. Our radio training academy, now in operation for over 2 years, has trained and developed up and coming radio talent free of charge and proves Hot 91.9FM is not only Joburg’s best Old Skool and R&B station but also continues to make a meaningful difference within our community.”
