Fry’s Family Foods, the Durban-based producer of the Fry’s meat-free product range, has scooped the Food Category for 2013 in Australia’s prestigious Green Lifestyle Awards. Awarded annually by Green Lifestyle magazine, Australia’s leading green sector publication, the prestigious awards recognise companies and individuals that are pioneering innovation and change in service of a cleaner and greener living and industrial environment, says Tammy Fry Kelly, marketing director of Fry’s Family Food Group

Fry’s Family Foods won the award for their commitment to sustainability and the environment. The Fry’s Family Foundation is the sole funder of Meat Free Mondays Australia. Over the past year Fry’s Group Foods donated 10% of its turn-over generated in Australia to non profit organisations committed to the environment and animal welfare.

Olivia Newton John was also acknowledged in the Hall of Fame and the People’s category for the work she has done towards securing a  greener future.

The judging panel comprised key stakeholders in the green industry in Australia as follows:

–          Matt Perry the co-founder and partner of Republic of Everyone.

–          Tanya Ha, an award winning environmentalist, best-selling author and television presenter.

–          Jon Dee, author and founder of Do Something! And Planet Ark.

–          Karel Boele, director of Eco Directory Australia.

–          Lesley Lopes, editor of Green Lifestyle magazine

–          Patrice Newell, former TV presenter turned biodynamic farmer, alternative lifestyle advocate and author.
