On November 25, The Big Issue will host its final business breakfast for 2015, sponsored by and hosted at The Table Bay Hotel.
Under the theme of Women who work, the morning will centre around a panel discussion by a selection of hardworking women (see the invitation below for details). They include The Big Issue vendor, Mavis Manqasana, digital marketer Amanda Lambe and owner of the Harris Group, Tasmine Harris. It will be chaired by SAFM presenter, Nancy Richards.
The Big Issue business breakfasts were initiated in response to a slowdown in the economy, which has made it increasingly difficult for the organisation to continue its work. In addition to distinguished speakers, the sessions introduce the public to The Big Issue and its ethos, spreading awareness and identifying new opportunities.
The Big Issue believes in giving a hand up, not a hand out. Most of the vendors live in informal settlements, but they are active entrepreneurs who work hard to support themselves and their extended families. The Big Issue focuses on moving vendors into regularly paying jobs, and has served as a successful springboard for the past 19 years.
