Bran Nicol specialises in modern and contemporary writing, film and media culture, and is especially interested in how specific texts, people, and events illuminate broader social concerns.
His books include Jean Baudrillard (co-written with Emmanuelle Fantin) (2025), The Cambridge Introduction to Postmodern Fiction (2009), The Private Eye: Detectives in the Movies (2013), and The Cambridge Companion to British Postmodern Fiction (2025). He is currently writing Autofiction: A Critical Introduction (Routledge).
He is Professor of English Literature at the University of Surrey.
