After more than 40 years in sports journalism and broadcasting, Dan Retief took time out and has just completed a book about his experiences covering the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup. He expects The Springboks and the Holy Grail to ruffle a few feathers. Having started out in 1970, he hankers for the days when sports reporters had to know their subject, could write well and were respected. He says rugby is his work and golf his love – and he’s still working on getting to play Augusta and Pebble Beach.
