Dirk De Vos is a lawyer by training and after graduating from the University of Cape Town with an LLB degree, completed his articles in Johannesburg. Years of legal practise followed, specialising in electronic media and consulting to a Pan-African free-to-air television network company. He worked in a number of countries on the African continent during this time. Dirk then moved to Cape Town and was employed by a listed sports and media investment company working in the corporate finance arena.
Dirk established QED Solutions as a transaction advisory and implementation service in 2004. He expanded its remit to include consulting in the area of venture capital and start-up’s. The decision to focus on technology-rich environments and environments where intellectual property is important was as a result of an existing familiarity with intellectual property and an understanding that good business ideas that are well implemented, and the ability to constantly innovate and use technologies, represents “unrealised” capital. With the right strategies and sweat equity, this capital can be converted into wealth with lower amounts of financial or physical capital.
