Herkulaas MvE Combrink & Phelokazi Mkungeka

Herkulaas MvE Combrink holds a background in Health Science and Computer Science with a specialisation on Data science and Artificial Intelligence. He is the co-director - Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Futures and the head of the Knowledge Mapping Lab - a research group he started to manage infodemics and human language technology innovation.

He researches AI4ED, Medical Science, and demystifying misinformation through science. Unfortunately, argumentative fallacies and a lack of evidence tends to drive emotional social discourse that sometimes lead to infodemics, and he tries my best with the team to make sense of it so that they can mitigate harm. Combrink has worked on several projects related to health systems and knowledge mapping, and continues to assist in managing infodemics, public health, and other societal impact projects. With years' experience in AI, Analytics, and project management, he uses his skills to add value to society.

Phelokazi Mkungeka is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in Sociology, specialising in artificial intelligence and health misinformation in digital environments. She currently serves as an Assistant Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Futures (ICDF) and am a PhD candidate in Development Studies at the University of the Free State. Her work focuses on health infodemics, knowledge mapping, and the social dynamics of digital information ecosystems. I have contributed to several research projects in this area and have published on related topics.
