Nicky is a writer and academic based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She currently holds the SARCHi Chair in Critical Diversity Studies and is the Director of the Wits Centre for Diversity Studies. Her research is primarily concerned with race and anxiety in the urban global south, with a particular interest in whiteness. She also writes and teaches on gender, popular culture and social geography. Nicky has a PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities and Cultural Studies from the London Consortium, part of Birkbeck College, University of London, and a Masters in Critical Theory from Sussex University. Her books include 'The End of Whiteness: Satanism and Family Murder in Late Apartheid South Africa', 'Anxious Joburg: The Inner Lives of a Global South City' and 'Worrier State: Risk, Anxiety and Moral Panic in South Africa'.
