Media24 has announced that Jo-Ann Held has been appointed as a director of this company.
Held (nee Strauss) is a media entrepreneur who, among other initiatives, presents and has produced her own prime time TV show. She obtained a BCom (Law) degree at Stellenbosch University.
Held is a former Miss South Africa, was a presenter of Pasella and is still involved as a presenter at Top Billing. She is a popular speaker about various subjects such as gender issues, the new business environment and corporate transformation. She is actively involved in several charity initiatives.
Heart 104.9FM announces the departure of Saskia Falken
As part of its ongoing review of Heart 104.9 FM’s value proposition to listeners, the station constantly assesses its on air presenters. Managing director Gary Petersen says the station reviewed its six am to six pm line-up. “In this regard Saskia Falken will be leaving the station at the end of February 2014,” he said in a statement.
Falken has spent the past 14 years in radio and most of this time at Heart 104.9FM. “The station has afforded Falken the opportunity to hone her craft and over the past two years has given her the chance to complete a commercial degree. We have no doubt that this will further contribute to Saskia’s future endeavours. We wish her well and thank her for the enjoyable time we, her Heart family, have shared with her” says Petersen.
Top editor to join Editorial Solutions at Media24 Magazines
Grazia editor Danielle Weakley is set to join Media24’s recently established division Editorial Solutions at the end of March 2014. Weakley is known as the South African editor of this international brand that has had a big impact on the local fashion and beauty front for the past 18 months. ‘’It has been a joy to be part of Grazia. I am passionate about fashion and beauty content in particular and delighted to take up the commercial and editorial challenges Editorial Solutions offers,’’ says Weakley.
Weakley will join the Editorial Solutions team that is headed up by Izelle Venter, the previous editor-in-chief of Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum, three of Media24’s weekly titles.
‘’Media24 Editorial Solutions has been set up to serve our advertisers and clients with what we understand best: content. With our massive reach on print and digital platforms we are able to deliver content solutions in an uncontested manner. Danielle’s editorial expertise and energy are a perfect match for this new key division,’’ says John Relihan, CEO of Media24 magazines.
Werner Lindemann joins Kagiso Media
Werner Lindemann has joined Kagiso Media in the capacity of group commercial director. His key focus areas in his new position will include all group commercial processes namely top line growth, business development, sales, customer relationship and talent development. He will also look at the group’s commercial positioning within the rest of Africa and will oversee larger or multiple Opco deals.
Lindemann holds a BSc Eng. (Industrial), a MSc Eng. (cum laude) and a MBA and is understandably excited about the opportunity to add real value to Kagiso’s current operations. “It’s fantastic to be back in the media industry and to be part of such a vibrant business with myriads of opportunities. If we stay true to the Kagiso Media reason for existence, i.e. ‘creating communities for the good’, we have a differentiator that nobody can come close to in the SA market.”
Prior to joining Kagiso Media, Lindemann served as managing director at Datacentrix and before that as Vice President for IBM Global Technology Services in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Cinemark’s Marchel van Wyk gives license to laugh
With a flair for the dramatic and an addiction to movies, it is no wonder 25-year-old Marchel Van Wyk has found herself in the position of media analyst at Cinemark. Van Wyk has has worked her way up the rungs to the role starting out working as a PA for a financial consultant, then became a client service agent in insurance. “In 2011 I got my first job in the industry as an intern and from there I graduated to junior media analyst and eventually media buyer. Now I work at Cinemark as a media analyst,” she says.
Van Wyk spends her days doing research and analysis based on the cinema medium, target market, demographics, cinema in relation to other mediums, how it is consumed by certain target audiences and international cinema.
Dr Seuss’ quote: “Fantasy is a necessary ingredient to living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope,” is one of Marchel’s favourite quotes because she says it is important to try not to take yourself too seriously. “Laugh now and then, laughter is good for the soul.”
Claire Cobbledick to head up marketing at eBay’s Gumtree SA
Since leaving The Jupiter Drawing Room Cape Town at the end of 2013, Claire Cobbledick has resurfaced as Gumtree’s head of marketing for South Africa.
Cobbledick’s agency career started over 16 years ago. In 2010 she has promoted to MD and in 2013 voted one of the most-admired agency bosses in Cape Town, notably for her nerveless leadership.
An ex-Durbanite who studied law, Cobbledick counts many high-profile industry events as career highlights, having held the first ‘Red Bull Flugtag’ in the country, when Red Bull was still a fledgling brand, and taking part in the repositioning of Sanlam, the launch of Virgin Money SA, and the relaunch of 20twenty.com, the pure play bank.
She believes these seminal events on the SA marketing landscape will prove invaluable in eBay and Gumtree’s play for continued dominance in the local classifieds market.
In short…
Gugu Jombile has been appointed as Operations Administrator within the Group Content Services division at M-Net.

Dave sets very high standards in business, and he has worked tirelessly together with our advertising team and international media consultants in bringing top class products and innovation to market.
