Making a meal out of design

Having moved to Cape Town, I was struck by the sheer number of restaurants that are available in the Mother City, and decided that one of my latest passions in my new found home would be to sample as many of them as possible.

While sitting in one of these establishments, I was impressed by the Chef coming into the main restaurant to chat to patrons about what food they enjoyed, and then going into the back and custom-making a dish for you, rather than giving you a menu and making you eat what they have. This got me to thinking about the business that I am involved in.

Essentially we would be called a design and advertising agency, but in our minds, we are more than that. We are the restaurant that has a chef who custom makes your meal for you. Our rate card is a thing of the past – instead what we have managed to do is align ourselves with some of the best minds and talents in the marketing, advertising and design arenas to ensure that we listen to what a customer’s requirements are and to ensure that we meet their objectives.

We run a business that is based on delivering on the bottom line, and our bottom line will only be increased through our customers improving on their bottom line. We have a business that has evolved over the years based on our customer needs and being able to meet those needs, and this has ensured that our biggest marketing tool has been client referrals.

It’s like we bottled word of mouth!

So, although people may say that advertising agencies are businesses that help other businesses promote their goods and services, we believe that our agency is a business that integrates into other businesses to ensure that they achieve their objectives in promoting their goods or services in a profitable manner.

Goodwill Moyo is the Marketing Director of Brand inc Cape Town, a design and marketing agency, specialising in sport (www.brandinc.co.za). He has 11 years experience in the marketing industry, and is fanatical about rugby, be it as a player, coach, spectator or Wannabe Springbok selector. He is a passionate family man and we all know how big African families are. He has no kids, but in the interim he fills that gap with his pride and joy Milo, the rugby coaching Jack Russell.
